We Support the National Self-Determination of

Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia

The results of a five-day referendum in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia in the former Ukrainian region were announced on September 27. The four statess voted 99%, 98%, 87% and 93%, respectively, to “get out of Ukraine and annex into Russia.”

Since the counter-revolution of capitalism in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe in 1989~1991, US-led NATO imperialism has subjugated former workers’-state areas one by one, kneeling before imperialism. Imperialist ‘regime change’ progressed step by step in Eastern Europe and countries belonging to the former Soviet Union. The pro-American puppet government was established and incorporated into the area of imperialist super exploitation, and a front-line fortress was built to advance to Russia, the ultimate eastward target.

In that context, a Ukrainian “Euro-Maidan” coup occurred in 2014, and a pro-American/pro-Nato fascist regime was established in Kiev. It wiped out the labor movement and suppressed Russian-speaking minorities. After the 2014 coup, the Ukrainian labor/leftist movement was brutally trampled, and military provocations against the Donbas region continued for eight years.

Military provocations by pro-American fascist forces have already killed 14,000 people in the Donbas region and destroyed numerous infrastructure prior to Russia’s entry into the war. Russia’s neck would have been exposed directly to imperialist blade if the Donbas region, asking for Russian aid, had collapsed. Russia’s military intervention in February came amid this situation.

In this regard, we recognize the exercise of national self-determination in the four regions of Ukraine and their war against imperialist oppression as progressive. Support and defend the local people’s decision of “independence from Ukraine and annexation to Russia!” Join us on a colonial united front to overthrow imperialist looters!

The united front rightly excludes “political support” for colonial capitalist power in each region. Total liberation from imperialism is possible only when the capitalist system is overthrown. Only a united international working class can go straight on that path. Let’s build a reliable communist international that will lead the global socialist revolution!
